We ordered a variety of chicks from a hatchery. One was a silver laced wyandotte. I’m suspicious that it may be a rooster. Very bossy and picks at the other chicks. Has even jumped at them, but only 4 weeks old today. I’ve included pictures of it. I know it’s a bit early to determine gender but would love feedback.

I will try to get one later....but it really is a redish pink tone to the waddle and comb. The other chicks are a yellow color.

The red light is disguising the actual color of the comb and wattles.
From what you say, you probably do have one male chick among your females.

Did you order males, females, or straight run chicks?
If you ordered straight run, be on the lookout for more males--about 50/50 is normal.
If you ordered females, it's fairly common to find an occasional male. Most hatcheries guarantee 90% accuracy, which means about 1 in 10 wrong gender anyway.

Thank you. We ordered all females. I wondered how accurate they would be. It will be ok if its a roo...I’m just nervous having one with kids. Do you know anything about the temperament of a silver laced roo?

That does look like an awfully red comb and wattles for his age--I agree with you in thinking HE is not a she!

I don't know anything about that particular breed's temperament--but individual roosters differ anyway. I would certainly watch interactions of kids/chickens (don't want a squished chick, or a hen deciding to bite someone's freckles, either.)

I personally don't mind eating chickens I have raised, so I always keep that in mind when dealing with a rooster--if he causes a problem, he'll be dinner. I know that doesn't work for everyone, but it does work for me.

I really appreciate your feedback. We’ve had teenagers before but this is our first time with baby chicks 😬🐓 This would/will be our first roo
