I noticed one of my birds laying down all day. She was foraging, eating, preening and would get up when she needed to. She laid an egg yesterday also and went into the coop with everyone else. I have an automatic door so she came out with everyone this morning and has just been laying around. She will eat from my hand and gets up every now and again to find a new place to lay down. She is a rescued bullied chicken that took about 4 months to integrate into the flock and was doing well until yesterday. No discharge, no visible injury, no real evidence of mites or lice. This is new behavior for her. I just put save a chick in the water hoping it’s just from the heat. Any suggestions

What was her crop like this morning? Was it flat when she woke up?

Thank you for relying. She emptied her crop last night. It was full last night and flat this morning. Also, I just checked her poo. No worms.
Hmm hopefully it is just from the heat. The electrolytes are a good idea. Maybe that will perk her up. Perhaps she injured herself coming off the roost this morning and is moving a bit slow. Or it could be the heat, too, as you said.

Molting season is right around the corner, too. I’ve had a few acting slower as they move that direction. Could she be coming close to a molt?

Maybe. Like is said she was adopted about 4 months ago and didn’t have many feathers. I don’t know when she was hatched. But definitely possible. She just finished an epsom salt bath and I got as much crud away from her vent could.

Did they tell you how old she was? Any obvious health issues that you had to deal with?

I adopted a lone hen into our flock a few years ago, too. It was a tough process, but so worth it to save her. Even now she is a bit of a loner, but I love her so much. Probably my favorite hen.

They said nothing but it was very obvious she was bullied. She is a loner most of the time but she tries to be part of the flock. Eventually it happened… accidentally. I see some of her feathers around in the ground but I don’t know. I do know she has been a challenge. Lol.

Aw poor girl. I understand that challenge. We are in the same boat. I think I am probably Ravioli’s only true friend. She tries, too, but doesn’t quite live up to the flock standards lol.

Anyways I supposed keep an eye on her and watch for the usual standing fluffed up and droopy tail/wings…sounds like you’re doing all you can. You’ve gone through the checklist I would’ve.

She doesn’t have a bloated abdomen or anything does she?

Nope. All soft. She does act lethargic but her tail is up most of the time and her eyes stay open and she acts alert. She doesn’t seem sleepy lethargic. Just lays down. Hopefully it doesn’t get worse. Thank you!
