Maybe a stupid question but... need to know!!

Ok, after an egg is cracked how can you tell if it is fertile or not??? The store bought eggs I know are not fertile, right..? But they still have a little white gristly looking thing next to the yolk. Is the fertile part the tiny circle shaped thing In the yolk??

And the answer is...The white ropy stuff is what holds the yolk in place inside the egg -- don't worry about that part. All eggs will have a little white spot somewhere on the yolk, and when it is fertilized you'll see a little ring in the middle. The above link is great to see pictures of it.
