Maybe I'm stupid, but ...

I picked up this used nest box in the hopes of gathering clean, unbroken eggs. But I just don't understand how this is designed to work! I assumed that the hen would lay an egg inInside photo the box and it ( the egg) would roll down into a covered tray for collection. BUT the screen has a "lip" on it so the egg will never reach the collection tray. Am I missing something? I'm new at this so it's ok to laugh if this is something obvious.

Does that have a make and model number so I can try to find it online. I cannot tell how it is supposed to function from your photos. From what I can see that is not supposed to be a roll-away nest where the eggs go where an egg eating hen cannot get to them but I could be wrong.

I'm thinking the lip is to account for the depth of nesting box pads/liners.
