hey, I’m thinking about getting a single duck for a pet, I live in a one bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and a dog, and cat, we travel for ‘work’ on weekends but I have a folding table I can kinda use to make a pen.

Any other tips for successful duck life?

that’s the worst idea ever, sorry.

ducks NEED other ducks no matter what. my ducks are imprinted to me but still need each other. ducks cannot live in apartments, they need to have a yard to spend everyday outside being ducks. i seriously hope your joking

My good friend told me that one of his ex girlfriends is a bet and says apartment ducks are common and not an issue if i take it out to walk around our apartment complex a couple times a day.

and i mean it can just hang out in our tub too maybe?

Definitely not, would be cruel to even try. Ducks are very social and absolutely need other ducks, and a yard. It is just a horrible idea.

That has got to be the worst idea I have heard regarding pets in a long time. Granted my hen lives outside with the rooster George and they come inside to enjoy the ac but I dont want them inside. They poop all over even though bird poop comes out easily in the wash. The hen will peck on my bedroom door until I let her in even though I have a ton of dogs and cats. They need to stay outside. If its cold outside they can come in...but the weather is nice now. GET A PET RAT.

Sure it can live happily in your bathroom for years...just like you can. How long could you stay in your bathroom before you go crazy? Get a pet rat...they make great pets...you can take them anywhere, and you are guaranteed to get your own seat on a train or bus...unless I am on it...I love rats. Many people in the USA have pet rats and in Europe I saw a ton on the trains and subways on the owners shoulder. They have many kinds of them...the prettiest Ive seen are the siamese rat...they are the same color as siamese cats. A lady in Tucson breeds them. Just remember if you get a male and female make sure you get one of them fixed. It will save you from having hundreds of unwanted rats. Two females are okay but sometimes two males fight. I guess you could get one rat but Ive never had one of anything...well I do have one horse right now...but I got him a donkey because shetland ponies are jerks and I would never want two of them. Donkeys are so super sweet. And no you can not have a donkey in your apartment.

I had to move one of my ducks into a dog crate into my garage for a week after she was recovering from an attack. Let's just say, my garage smelled. The mess was contained but still gross. And she was only in there at night. I had her back outside during the day. NO WAY would I want a duck inside my house or apartment. The garage was enough. Just no.

I can understand wanting an apartment duck. Ducks are super sweet and adorable!

It wouldn't be a good idea in the long run. Your duck would likely be depressed, especially if you aren't there 24/7, your duck would probably become a horrible mess maker and would be VERY restless. Ducks need lots of sunshine, water, dirty mud puddles, and other ducks.

Maybe in the future when you have a yard and can own more than one. They're so much fun, I love mine, but a lonely, confined duck won't be fun and will likely have a hard time fitting into your current situation. Just wait, but do get a duck someday!
