Maybe this is silly... but can silkies roost?

When I first started with my chickens I was told silkies couldn't roost because of their 5th toe. They proved everybody wrong... two of the three do roost.

I have 50-50. One was in the silkey pile but now has joined the big girls. I build a 'Silkey Garage', (a small insulated box) for the non-roost birds to stay warm. All have silkey toes.

My older silkies roost but the younger ones still sleep in a pile and play on the roost during the day. The roost is only 12 inches off the floor though. They're only 9 weeks old and we plan on raising it as they get bigger.

My Silkies prefer to sleep in a pile at the corner of the pen at night, but they do roost some during the daytime. My husband built a very low 2-tiered roost specifically for my Silkies and they like to sit on it during the daytime when they are not up walking around. At night, I think they feel safer in their "Silkie pile" though.
