Maybe we are related, what was your maiden name or your mama's?

Ok, for reference (posted my names earlier)...

for name Kinney, Kinny, Kenney, Kinne -

the Kinne family was in Salem during the witch trails - Henry Kinne was one of those who signed the warrant for Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse. He was married to the cousin of Ann Putnam's father and was their neighbor. (his wife was also Ann Putnam - they obviously weren't very imaginative with names in that little group.)

curiously enough, after the trials all ended, and the new pastor brought some sanity to the flock of folks, Henry's son married Rebecca Nurse's granddaughter (who was named after her).

so, by marriage, I guess I am also related to Rebecca Nurse - but no direct line.

does anyone have Salem ancestors?

I am pretty interested in that whole mess, actually. Have you ever read "The Devil in Massachusetts"? I recognized a lot of my neighbors (and myself) in that book - it was scary, in a way

The part where it tells about afterwards, though, is what was really neat - the new pastor came in and he really worked hard to fix the community and everyone's attitudes towards each other.

It just boggles me, still, how they could have gone so crazy over the whole deal - how do you watch your neighbor being hung/tortured and not speak out? or even relish the event? -- Or even have doubts yourself (if you were afraid to speak out).

Do you mean Quantrill's Raiders? They wiped out all the men and boys in the town I live in back in 1863!!

It's a huge part of our town's history, and there are still buildings and houses that have marks in the stones from the massacre. Horrible story!

My last name was Grimmer- very German. We also have Forrster, Savage (likely ended in '-ski' pre-Ellis Island), Steinle, Bates, Haberer, and we can trace stuff all the way back to the 600's in some lines. It's great fun!

I have Volga region German-Russian immigrant all over on my Mom's side, along with a bunch of Bohemian mutt.

Be careful posting things like your mother's maiden name online. It's often used as a password clue for accessing passwords, and credit card companies often use it to verify your identity. Just a thought.

Cota (americanized from the original French Cote when they moved from Canada) on my mom's dad's side. Mom's mom was bohmeian (armstrong) and they moved to MN in a covered wagon when my grandma was little.
