Hi I hatched out in April 7 embden goslings two have recently died I have wormed them they graze, they get fed layers pellets fairly regularly but I would prefer them to be grass raised if possible. Up till last week I noticed that 2 were a bit wobbly and when I checked their weight they were light...eating fine drinking swimming etc all good, but then they both died with a couple of hours of each other. The others seem fine but now I am panicking that the others will follow the two that died.
If you have any suggestions I would be so pleased to hear any thoughts. Should also mention that they both liked staying on the pond. I have another who likes to stay on the pond now.... I also keep silver laced winged wyandotte's and some Indian runners all are fine and laying well
please help

Geese/goslings should be fed a waterfowl feed or flock raiser. Layer pellets are not sufficient enough for them it doesnt contain what waterfowl need. I have seen a few members on here that have lost goslings an were feeding layer pellets.

8 is right you need to change them over to a waterfowl feed or gamebird feed. Since older they can eat adult waterfowl or gamebird feed! Do this as soon as possible and also put brewers yeast powder for animals on it. The have been denied the niacin they need and that could be the reason the two have died on you. Most people think you can feed what you do chickens. NO you can not!!!

Hi, I still have a problem, I have lost two geese so far and another is showing the same signs... I have moved them over to the feed you suggested, crushed niacin tablets and dissolved them into their water added brewers yeast to their feed. I am at a loss to what this might be. When let them out of their shed this morning the new wobbly one is getting light in weight passed a what looked liked really running poo more like brown pee... I have wormed them etc, what course of treatment can I follow, do I need the vet?

Cheers

Forgot to mention that they are out in my orchard with plenty of grass to eat, the older gander (2 years old) seems fine and his normal self. I have used poultry tonic to boost vitamins etc...

I'm not a duck person but everytime I changed feed for my chickens they got diareah for about a week till they got used to it. The change of diet may be the reason for the new symptoms.

From what the others have said it sounds like malnutrition so that would cause them to be weak and wobbly I would imagine.

Good luck hope they improve on the proper diet.
