Mazuri? Game Bird feed? Make your own?

if you have a lot of money invested in your animals you should feed them the best most complete food. I only use Mazuri Breeder, Maintance, or Starter for my Exotic Ducks but I also put out a small bowl of Chicken Scratch mixed with some flock raiser and sunflower seed chips as a treat daily. The Whistlers like it the best and the Shelducks won't touch it. In winter they also get fresh rye grass daily which they all love

I have never had a loss from sickness only heat in August here in the deep south and a pr of Whistlers I bought were full of worms but I didn't find out until it was to late. I worm all my birds with Flubenvet every 6 months which can be ordered by mail. It is not sold in the U.S. has very long exp. date

Lots of poultrymen feed their flocks that way, especially those that have their feed mixed from feed mills. They get the custom mix of grains they want, and then just put out a tub of oyster shell. If you have any particular questions, I bet you'd get a ton of answers on the Feeding your Flock section of this site.

I don't know of anyone who routinely feeds cat food to their chickens or ducks. Most of those I know that do, feed it as part of show preparation-- apparently the extra protein and fat gets the birds in beautiful shape if you start feeding it several weeks out from the show. I don't know anyone who does it just for backyard birds during laying season (except as a treat), and for a bit of extra warmth during winter, most of the poultrymen I know just use scratch grains. I bet you'd get good answers on that as well on the Feeding section.
