New to this site. I have four hens and so far only one has started to lay but after a week she stopped for a day. Is that normal?

Hello and Welcome To BYC! Yes, it is normal, new layers can be pretty sporadic in their laying, but even really really good commercial breeds will not lay every single day even when they are at their best, they will still take a day off here and there.

Kelsie X2 New layers are still getting their egg machines in gear and takes them awhile to get everything functioning properly. And not all chickens lay every day. I have some that lay daily, some every other day and some only a couple times a week. Every bird and breed is different.

She laid an egg today. Can't wait till the other three start to lay. They are the same age so hope they will start to lay soon. They are fun to watch.
