Mcallaway

She laid an egg today. Can't wait till the other three start to lay. They are the same age so hope they will start to lay soon. They are fun to watch.

How old are your hens? Ours were born Apr 13th and no eggs yet. I am starting to wonder if we're doing something wrong.

Quote: What breeds to you keep? Some breeds hold off til 6 or even 7 months of age before they are mature enough to lay. Are the combs, faces and wattles really big and red yet? When they start to do the squat when you lean over them, they are getting very close to laying.

Sounds like you got your answer, good luck!

Mine were hatched the first of April and only one out of four are laying. Just be patient. I did put a golf ball in their nesting boxes think that helps.

Thanks! They are Easter Eggers. I tried leaning over them and they just squawked and skittered away. And one has a very red comb, but the others are not as red. So I'll be patient! :) The feed store owner said mine should be laying already, so i was getting concerned. Thanks for the help!
