Well, how can that be? They clearly advertise here in Michigan that they use "local" farmers to get their eggs from. Mhm....

few tricks they can use....we get eggs from local farmers(could even use free range)....they don't say they ONLY use local farmers.. heck even if less than 1% that statement would be true.

also, if the corporation has a warehouse, a business office, or even a mailing address that is "local" or in the state of Michigan, they can say that the supplier is a "local" farmer. It's not a lie; they just omit the fact that the "farm" is a local factory setup.

I do agree that the publicity and leaving this supplier is a good thing. However, it is just a pre-emptive strike to save McD's image. As I said, the average consumer does NOT care that their food is raised like this. Horrible conditions abound at ALL factory farms, that is what keeps the product cheap. There are going to be bad employees at any business as well. From the cashier who tries to skim off your change to the mechanic that pads your bill. Callousness to the cruelty the birds experience is a fairly common factor in commercial slaughtering. Here, there are a million Tyson plants. It's nasty gross disgusting work and there are going to be people who take that resentment out on the "product"

Of course, that is also how you have to view the birds. Not as living things, but as a product to move through as quickly as possible. There is a quota that you have to meet to keep the line moving. A panicked bird is going to slow you down and that can lead to some pretty rough handling. It's not right, but we're talking about people and some of them are just cruel to begin with.

Could there be more oversight and better conditions all the way through the food industry. YES! But, who is going to pay for it? The companies aren't going to just eat the cost and the consumer doesn't want to pay it.

In the end, the public would have been perfectly happy to never know about this scandal. They could have kept eating their McMuffins in peace, even those who know in the back of their minds that factory farming is cruel.

The groups of people that expose this kind of stuff do not even want anyone owning animals for consumption or eggs or milk or... they are wackos that are not living in reality and do not realise we would be a starving 3rd world country without the cheap foods available to the consumer that are a direct result of large scale farms. The companies can police thier workers if they know about it, that could be improved upon.

I don't understand your comment. Cage free and organic eggs are available in most stores.

No, i mean Cage free well never be in macdonalds...

And you do know that just because they are cage free does not mean they live in any better conndtions, in fact some of the avery designs that stores get there cage free eggs from are worse conditons then caged birds.

Actualy, i am in support of caged eggs most days.... Does not mean mine are caged. i just support it for everyday peoples, because they tend to be safer.
