McMurray's New Shipping Practices...has anyone heard about this?

I had my order all placed with McMurray and cancelled because they said the do not ship on mondays, tues or wed's and that just scared me. So I ordered through ideal again for the fifth time and again all come in alive and on friday I got them. They shipped on Wednesday

I never ordered from them, but I just got 25 from Marti and they all died.

And I do think it is the post office. Most had symptoms of head trama. At least that is what it seem to me.

And Martis ships on Wednesdays so I did get them on friday and the weather was nice.

My hubby used to work for ups, I know it is different, but he said they are on a time schedule and they push you. So maybe the p.o rushes bangs the box a bit the chicks get so scared and they die.

I don't blame you for changing though, I think I would too! I would like that idea of the chicks coming over the weekend.

Good luck with this order I hope they are all happy and healthy!

We got ours from McMurray on a Sunday this year. No losses and very healthy birds.

I think it's a PO issue.

Holderreads ships Priority because of potential delays with Express. I imagine McMurray does the same.

I've gotten at least 8 shipments of chicks from Sandhill preservation and have lost very few chicks, maybe one per box, some with out a loss, why does MM have such a large amout of loss, do they have weak stock? I've also gotten alot of chicks with Ideal the same as sandhill vrey little loss, Why????

This doesn't concern MM but our TSC has had a horrible problem with getting their chicks to them this year. They've not been getting the boxes to them quick at all.

They receieved a huge order of pullets all dead (She said she called all over trying to find the box. It had been there for like 3 days! The 2nd time it happened it was a big order of ducks (not sure what breed) and she finally found them at the main PO way across town. She went to pick them up she said they were so dehydrated. She got them in the brooders and was telling everybody that wanted to buy them that she wasn't selling any of them that day until they got better "they were in triage!" She said she was so po'ed at the lady at the PO and was asking her why in the world they didn't call that they have to call when they get there. The lady said no they didn't it's just a courtesy. She said these are live animals not socks!!! She said the she told that lady if there's any way I can get ya'll charge with cruelty to animals I will.

They use Mt Healthy and she said the shipper wasn't the problem they shipped on time and didn't every thing they should have!!

I've been reading so many posts on how bad it's getting I don't think I'll ever have any shipped ever!! I'll stick to TSC and my local stores!!

This all sounds like a class action suit in the making to me. My guess is that it's an issue w/ McMurry's local PO. If that's so, it may well put McMurry out of biz. If they can't ship chicks, they will loose most of their business. If they have to replace over 90% of the chicks shipped, they won't be able to support that expense.

I'd recommend that everyone who looses chicks send a complaint to the Post Master for the PO local to McMurry & cc: his boss, the Post Master General (in DC) & McMurry. All of this will either cause the local Post Master to see that his new policy is causing a problem & put on extra help (instead of changing the ship day to a day that kills the chicks) or, it will at least help McMurry in their law suit against the PO & the Post Master. Sending cc to his boss might cause the local Post Master to give some hard thought to his actions.

First, I'm sorry you lost your chicks. Under normal circumstances, I don't think that would happen. It sounds like they are being forced to ship on Saturdays, probably because that is when their local post office can handle their volume. Their response, to me, sounds pretty reasonable. The mail doesn't stop moving on Sunday. The birds are still in route to you and most often probably would arrive on Monday. It sounds like that simply didn't happen in your case, but a shipment getting delayed like that can happen regardless of the day it is shipped. I don't know that them being shipping on Saturday had that much to do with the loss.

As far as Express verses Priority, it is a complete and utter waste of money for us to use Express here where we are, YMMV. It *never* get here faster than Priority. In some places, Express is now taking LONGER than Priority.

I order from Privett and Belt via our local feed store so I don't have to pay shipping. Their deliveries come in Tues and Thurs. I called Privett to find out when my SF were coming in.. they had a hatch date of Mon and a delivery date of Tues. And Belt is the shipment that comes in on Thurs. So I know other hatcheries do it differently.

This is not new, they have been shipping on Saturdays for years. I have ordered from them many times, chicks at the po on monday am. Mail does not sit around all day on Saturdays and Sundays it is moving all the time. Some local po's will call on Sunday, some will not.
