Meal worms as food?

I have to go with the myth. I raised chameleons for years and they had a steady diet of mealworms and I mean steady. That was the majority of their diet. I also raised exotic finches for several years and fed them mealworms as a treat, again no problems. I had heard that the super mealworm was the cause of this rumor but it had never been proven. As for chickens, there is not much they don't eat as long as it doesn't eat them first.

I've been on reptile forums. I don't know anyone knowledgeable or experienced that wouldn't say it's a myth.

I'm new but I'm gonna jump on this. I have geckos and I've had various other reptiles over the last 20 years and most of the lizards I have always fed mealworms. I even raise mealworms because of the animals I have that eat them. Pinching mealworms heads off so they won't eat through the stomach is a myth. I agree with one of the other posters that the lizard died of some other illness and they just happened to find a meal worm in the stomach. So I would say its safe to feed to the chickies.

Thanks guys/gals.one more question though, would it be ok to use oatmeal as a base then carrot or potatoe slices?Or should I use unmedicated chickmash would gamebird crumbles do?

I have meal worms and super worms, I can tell you super worms drown easy almost as soon as the hit the water( I have a part aquatic tank), my lizards seem to bite them first, meal worms have such a small mouth that even if they could stand the drowning they would do little harm. My rooster loves super worms:)
