Meal worms vs. table scraps

I have done a lot of reading of the many excellent posts on both the raising and feeding of meal worms, and also of feeding table scraps to the flock. A few questions come to mind that I did not see mentioned. Is there a benefit in converting table scraps to meal worms and feeding the worms to the flock, instead of giving the scraps directly to the flock? -- If you are raising meal worms, is it OK to feed the worms table meat scraps, cooked and/or raw? Is there a financial benefit to feeding and raising worms, verses feeding to the flock what the worms are fed? I'm looking for ideas and methods to minimize the cost of feeding my flock, while maintaining a safe, healthy, and reasonable approach. TNX

Meal worms do not eat the table scraps. They use the potatoes and tomatoes as a water source. They will eat the wheat bran or oatmeal as their food source. Adding table scraps to their environment will quickly overload it with moisture, causing the wheat bran or whatever to start spoiling. Stick to using the table scraps as feed for the chickens themselves. Similarly, though, you can build a black soldier fly composter reasonably cheap and for that, you do add food scraps, including meat products once it has an established colony going.

For other ideas on reducing costs, check out this post in my state's thread for a larger explanation I just posted for someone else.
