Thank you for the compliment!
I hope your chickens are still loving the mealies!

The first thing I did this morning was look in the bin to check on the mealies and I have three beetles running around. I ran and jumped on the bed while hubby was still sleeping and said, "GUESS WHAT!? I HAVE BEETLES!!!" He was less than impressed and not happy about how I woke him up.

LOL I am happy though...it's so amazing to watch them change like that! Almost every single one of the 300 large mealworms I bought have turned in to pupae so I am expecting an explosion of beetles within the next few days!

SO EXCITING!!!

Whooo Hooo BLoom! congrats! I HAD beetles... I was having some trouble with mites so I rinsed them and put them in all new bedding...yeah, I have beagle and she must have liked the smell of the grain that I ground (ESPECIALLY for them) so she brought down the entire colony and ate the grain...and maybe the beetles too?
I think I may be starting over...how are yours doing AMY? LOL--but not really....Terri O

Here are pics of my new repurposed multi function high rise mealie house.

This is a repurposed old cheap dresser. The bottom layer lined in plastic is for growing sprouts for the chickens and adding some humidity w/o putting water in the mealie trays themselves.

There are 4 shelves for mealie tubs, I have decreased the lights to just one per level except the bottom where the sprouts are.

The top is an experiment in trying to grow peppers and tomatoes in the house over winter.

A close up of the two occupied bins, I will add two more to the set up on each of the other two shelves. The shelves were repurposed parts of the drawers. ( this was broken prior to using it for mealies)

Just added a fabric "door" flap to help keep drafts out, heat in.
