Mealworm farming

How long do the beetles live? Will they begin to die off before I see any tiny worms? Ive got lots of dead beetles, but dont see any worms yet..Im going to move the bins to an upstairs bedroom where it gets realy realy warm now that its spring/summer...

The beetles live 3-5 months and start laying eggs very soon after they become beetles. So the eggs and babies are in there but you dont see them for about a month or so because they are sooooooooo tiny. But dont worry, all of a sudden one day, you will see millions of wiggling squirming little pieces of wheat bran or oats or whatever you are using. Once you see that, take a small spoonful out and put it on a paper plate. Then you will see just how tiny they really are. It is so much fun.

I have 1,000 Mighty Mealies from Grubco and 2,000 regular mealies from Amy. Can I put them together without problems such as the Mighties eating the normal mealies pupae? Any other concerns I should have in doing this?

The answer to your question is on page 391!!!!

Can't wait to start my mealies. I have been raising red wrigglers for composting for over a year now. Since I got the chickens and will be composting a more traditional way I gave my worms to a friend. I was feeling a bit blue, but I'll just transition to mealies instead.

Bazillion, I think I have 1/2 that now. I put 7-8 carrots in WHOLE yesterday.... there only was only 4 little nubs today. I moved the beetles and a few worms into a new bin. Moved some pupae to another and tomorrow I will try to divide the worms into two more bins. Finally I think I have a good colony going!

I put all the beetles in a bin, all the pupae I could find in another. Tried to leave the eggs and bitty wormies in the original bin. BUT ALL THE WORMS OMG...... I think I could easily make 4 or 5 bins and when the babies get bigger then I may have a BAZILLION

No wonder they eat so much! So what bins should be on the incubator? The babies?

BTW I used a colander and a spoon... took maybe 3 hours

so far. I still have to drill holes and divvy up the worms in other bin. And go buy a case of carrots
