Mealworm farming

If you have had them a month I bet they are about to start pupating. It is hard to tell how long I have always had a mixed age all in one bin set up and they all look alike, not like I can identify or name them!!! lol lol lol though I did name my first two pupa Adam and Eve.

You were right Kass! They started pupating a few days ago. The first came out real clear and clean white and I moved him to a bigger bin so the worms don't try to nibble on him. The second has been trying to throw off his outer shell for a few days, having trouble. The third came out last night! They're all in the big bin now. I'm sure they'll be new one's every couple days now.

Botulism? Has anyone heard of issues with this like there are with meat buckets and maggots? I am just about ready to find a place to order some meal worms to get going with this but don't want to give my girls botulism if it's an issue. Thanks!
Yes, botulism I have heard is a problem w/ meat bucket maggot feeding chickens. But this is not a problem w/ raising meal worms, meal worms are not raised on rotting anything (meat or veggie)

We grow meal worms for the lizards and now for the chickens. Make sure any grains you are feeding to your meal worms you kill all grain mites that might be living in there. Easy way to do this put oatmeal, ect in oven at 200 for about 30 min. the one time we didn't do this i ended up with tiny white grain mites all over my worms, house and everywhere, had to dump all my meal worms and start over.

It seems all my worms have turned into beetles now, so I have two plastic buckets with beetles laying eggs (I hope) I bet if I looked really well, I'd find baby worms, because I've had beetles a couple of months now, but, I haven't seen any in passing ;P Can't wait to have enough to feed the chickens!

I scored a 3 bin storage container at a Yard Sale for $5 it was even full of toys for the boys, extention cord, and a notebook LOL

Just bought 500 meal worms from Petco, 5 plastic containers from the dollar store, and some wheat bran today. I'm hoping for the best. There were two black beetles in the container, but no pupae, so I'm hoping that these are developed meal worms and not some other beetle.
