Mealworm farming

I've been wanting to make some chocolate covered worms, but they don't stay still enough for me to dip them.

I want to order one of your kits . . . it's still pretty cold here in MI though. Do I need to wait until it warms up for them to be shipped? Also, what is the shipping fee? Can I pay via Paypal?

Well I'm joining the ranks of mealworm farmer!!!

I just ordered 1000 from westknollamy! Thank you Amy! Her website is very informative. I can't wait! And my flock is going to be soooo excited! I know it will be awhile, but looking forward to this fall & winter to have some delicious snacks for them. And by the way, they are pretty good as I have had them before!!

They were baked I believe or maybe fried. We had a missionary come to our church and he had little bags for us. I don't remember where he was from, maybe Austrailia, but not sure. Anyway, they were crunchy and had good flavor! But rest assured, these will be strictly for my flock!!

Have new babies coming the first week of June, a broody setting on 8 due to hatch any day now, and 14 adults, 3 roos, 11 hens. I think 1000 will be a good start!

I would wait just a tad. Two days is okay, but if they stay in freezing weather over the weekend it might be a problem. Shipping is included in the price and yes you can pay via paypal.

I read in one of the first 20 pages or so of this thread that you can raise these in something as simple as a 10 gallon aquarium??? I'd love more details on this, but I don't have the time to read 500+ pages of this thread. Can anyone direct me to the spot for learning how to do them in an aquarium?

Hey jimmywalt! I'm like you, but I'm up to page 70!!! But if you go to Gallo del Cielo posts, he does his in an aquarium and has had them in there for over 20 yrs!! has lots of good info as well as westknollamy and hannakat!

I started feeding my baby goslings and ducklings the freeze-dried mealworms and went to the live ones. I have handled mealworms and superworms in the past, so no yuck factor. All I have to say is "WORMEATS!" and they go crazy, too. Good idea for the winter. I can do them in the bird barn in the spring and summer to even early fall here at my farm in New Mexico and then bring them in during the cold period, to a warmer building. I raise critical, threatened and endangered breeds of ducks and geese, and have a big pond and orchards for them to go out in during the day with their Great Pyrenees bodyguards. At night, they have their own big barn and enclosed yard area. I want to get into chickens soon. Maybe you guys can steer me in the right direction.
