Mealworm farming

Oranges work really well for me for the first 2 days after the mealies are shipped. After that i switch to carrots, asparagus (the butt ends that i don't eat, of course), oranges, and any other veggie scraps i have.

Would some of you that are raising mealworms please send pictures of your operation ? Sounds simple enough butI needpictures. Thank you

I read somewhere on this thread that potatoes were a favorite. I cut them in half (peeling and all) and once they have eaten the inside they hide under the peeling and lay eggs and the worms hatch there. They also love celery and apple slices. I also placed the bottom half of a cardboard egg carton (6 egg) in the aquarium and the beetles and the worms love hiding under there.

On the right hand side of the screen is a place you can look at all the images in this very long thread,
I would suggest you look thru those......
......might need to get on a computer, not sure that feature works on a phone/pad if that's what you're using.

If you look at the first page of this thread you'll find links to three different perspectives on raising mealworms, each with pictures. I use the single bin method which is the easiest way to get started.

Mine looks very similar to this except I have crumpled newspaper and an empty paper towel roll in there too. I love the one bin method because it's so simple!

I like the single bin method too because I don't have a lot of extra time to spend on them. Having something on the surface for them to crawl on and hide does help. I keep egg cartons on top to give the beetles more surface area to do their business, but I took them out for the pictures.

I completely agree. I just throw some food in there every once in a while and things are progressing nicely.
