Mealworm farming

I have so many beetles right now I can’t count them all. They are roaming all over the bin. I put in fresh potatoes this morning and they are all over them. Will write more later. What a great web site.

My worms are freezing their little butts off right now, it's winter and they hate it... they are in an unheated room... They'll be ok and start doing their thing again in the spring though.

Hi, I've been reading the threads about meal-worm farming. Is it as easy as it seems? Don't get me wrong,.... I have a HUGE habit of over thinking things! T's crossed and I's dotted!! lol.
But you get a container, purchase meal-worms, wheat bran, carrots wait a few weeks- then start sifting, separating,... few more weeks then you basically have the farm started?

I don't even do that. I just let them all grow together. Chickens will eat larvae, pupae and beetles, so I just grab some and let them eat.

It takes Months for them to make eggs and they grow.

It can be easy but then again depends on where you are, temps, moisture.

I kind of forget mine because I have to hide them from my daughter.

Because she is a Teenager and if she knew that there were "bugs" in the house she would scream for hours.. she has a few other medical issues so it is easier to hide the bugs then make anything worse

I hide mine from my husband for much the same reasons... lol

I asked my wife if I could raise black soldier flys, and she said no.
I wonder if she is more open to mealworms!
