Mealworm farming

I want to thank everyone for the encouragement. I was about to give up and sifted through yesterday and have thousands of new worms. I am currently our of grown mealworms but still have plenty of beetles and it is looking good. It only took a couple of days for the pupae to hatch but about a month before I saw any baby worms.

I just purchased 1,000 mealworms and was under the impression I was getting large worms but in fact got various sizes (most are tiny) I would like to purchase 1,000 large mealworms and 50-100 ready to lay beetles. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am ordering mealworms to start a farm. What's a good amount to start with?

1000 is good, more is better.

You could check with WestKnollAmy (her contact info is in the first post of this thread) or go with one of the larger reputable companies (Fluker Farms) or take a chance on ebay (here's a random seller I just found with a good rating and excellent prices). Most people don't sell beetles, but maybe a smaller seller might.

I got really lucky by going to my local mom and pop pet shop. They had a bunch at all stages and just gave me a bag full of a little bit of everything. Since they only sell the worms, they did not mind including beetles and pupae.

Faerie and sassymom0220 and everybody else interested:
I have not been on here for a while, but do have some really nice large mealies available.
Send me a pm for more info. My contact info is also in the very first post under this thread and I have successfully shipped to other BYC members.

I know this does not contribute to the thread in any way, but I had my first two pupae! I was so excited and had to share! My sweet, supportive hubby shivered with a case of the creepies at my announcement and so I wanted to pass along to others that may share this enthusiasm :) fingers crossed for the future mealies for everyone!

I'm glad to see you're still around! I'll remember to recommend you in the future when people ask.

Awww, thank you so much, Gallo del Cielo.
My work has been crazy last year, so I have not been around on BYC or on our local San Diego forum for a long time, but I have never stopped breeding or selling mealies for my chickens or other poultry and animal lovers.
My apologies to pop back in into the discussion like I did.....and Congratulations (!) to you to keep this thread going for years! Great job!
