Mealworm farming

I have RIRs/orpingtons and they dont have a problem scarfing down giant mealys. I feed my new chicks mealys..and it is amazing at the size of some of the worries I have seen chicks gulp down...

These are Superworms, not giant mealies. Is there a big size difference?
I keep hearing that they don't kill them then they eat them. That concerns me.

Think I am going to give them a bunch later today. It is cold outside

Well it took them a while to Peck, drop, peck & slam them on the ground then eat them.... picture it, it is funny.
I think next time I may kind of smash each worms head so it is dead and then the hens might eat it better.
They just kind of slurp up the mealworms, but the superworms are big @!

Oh don't kill them! That's half of the fun for the chickens is smacking the worms.

If you want to kill the supers, put them in the freezer for a little while, they are tropical and can't handle cold temps.

It never ceases to amaze me that chickens don't hold 'food' with their feet to assist in tearing it apart. SMH.

My Pigeon doesn't either, but I DID see him rip a big striped sunflower seed in half once by holding it in his beak and smacking it with his foot...

I put some styrofoam in with my mealworms and they are tunneling all through it. Would be nice to get rid of wheat bran altogether.

Even the beetles eat it. They leave gnaw marks.
