Okay, okay, OKAYYYY!!!

Yesterday I picked up the only size bag I could find of wheat bran--50 lbs--and told the guy I'd probably see him again next year for more.

He was a little confuzzled but amiable.

Now the trick will be to find some mealies to play with and see if this will work before I go buying a bunch from our BYC supplier, crazy_huhn. Soo...went by the tackle shop and asked to see their mealies--for two dozen 'giant mealworms' (which really weren't all that big), it was $2.95!! Ouch!

So instead, we called their bait supplier and I left a message. They're here in town, which is nice, maybe I can go see their setup and offer to trade some redworms for mealies!

Wish me luck, folks...I'm diving in!

Thanks, everyone for the compliments. I try to make everyone happy with meal worm farming.

We are about to increase our set up with adding a new bin each week for the next 10 weeks, 500 beetles to each plastic tub. At the end of seven days DH is wanting to move all live beetles over to the next new bin and add more beetles from the other bins already established to make another 500 beetles. And continue doing this for 10 weeks to get complete cycles through each bin and can harvest for bin one before they totally pupate out but let some pupate to keep the line going.

I already have 5 bins up and going but DH wants to set up these other 10. He has dreams of being able to retire on meal worms! I wish it could work that way as he just got laid off yesterday.
