Mealworm farming

About a week ago I posted with some concerns about my new mealworm farm. Amy told me that my worms were probably about to pupate and not to worry.

Well, ain't that the truth! I've got pupae coming out of my ears!

I already have 5 bins up and going but DH wants to set up these other 10. He has dreams of being able to retire on meal worms! I wish it could work that way as he just got laid off yesterday.

Ah, that sucks!!

Could have him sleep under the nesting boxes, then at least he'd be laid ON? (sick-looking grin, trying for a laugh, here)

But who knows? Maybe you'll get to the bait/feed company status sooner than you knew!

(hugs)

Hang in there, guys....

I have waged Moth war!!!!

Those pesty little things keep showing up. I put foam strips with tape around the top to help seal the lid and put in the little moth traps taped to the side of my bin. So it is on. I need to get my worms inside so they can produce faster. I will keep you posted.

those moths more, I think, than the armies of destructive squirrels outside! Keep us posted! Mine are finally moth-free now but I have a moth trap in mine as well. Just to be sure. The one on the outside has just about cleared them all out of here.

Sending Dead Moth vibes your way!!

Thanks for the vibes. Todays tally: 5 DEAD moths in the outside trap and 3 in the trap inside the bin. I will win this war. I need a Rocky smiley face to add here.

Todays tally: 8 DEAD moths in the outside trap and 11 in the trap inside the bin. No more in site. And I am ready for the ones to be hatched. I'm going to win, I'm going to win.................

Another victory for the moth traps. They are great, aren't they? I just found some on ebay and am trying them to compare with the Safer Brand I used earlier. These work the same...adhesive on inside, put the pheromone patch on the adhesive, etc. We'll see. These were 9 traps for a little over $15 and that also included shipping. I think that's pretty good. I had gotten the Safer Brand at Ace Hardware at the 2011 price of $8.95 for two traps. If these new ones from ebay work, it's a "no brainer." I'll let you know and give the link if they do the job. It'll take a while since I think I'd gotten rid of all of them. When you want 'em, they're not there. No, just kidding. I don't want them!
