Mealworm farming

Well I'm new to this, but I think the more you can get the better. While I have a ton of pupa and starting to get beetles now, I don't have much to start feeding the girls and I would like to be able to feed them meal worms now!

Well I ordered a 40 lb bag from my feed store for about $12.00, it will be here in about a week. I'm going to buy a 3 drawer plastic thing at Walmart for $12.00 then buy some mealies online. Should be up and running with this by the end of the month then.

Hey everybody!

All of my wormies are now beetles. Any ideas on when should I start seeing some larvae?

I got my first beetles on 11/20 and just today I am seeing some itty bitty baby wormies on the potatoes that I put in the drawer. They are so small I didn't even see them at first!!

I have had mealworms since November 19, 2011 and all they seem to be doing is shedding and eating. I want some action! I have a containers in preparation for a bigger operation, but I feel like I am never going to get there! Ok drama over....

How long til I get some pupae? I am anxious to start feeding my girls some extra... Thank you for all of the advice! BYC Rocks!!! (crows, clucks, trills and so much more....!)

Should be any time now; I got mine about then and they've beetled....

What substrate are you using and what temp are they at? How many in the container, and what size container is it?

Never give up! Where there's life, there're probably pupae SOMEWHERE.

My little mealworm farm is currently going through what I believe is best described as "Beetle-Mania". I started out at the beginning of Nov. with a mix of 1000 larvae, pupa and beetles that I got from Amy. Slowly but surely, just about every worm I had has turned to a beetle and I think they are having lots of "fun" together in the top drawer of the farm.

About two weeks ago I started to notice some tiny little baby worms in the second drawer and now they're not hard to find at all. I'm not quite ready to start feeding any out just yet but we're gettin' there!

I also added a humidifier to our home about a week ago and though it was bought for our benefit, I think my worms are enjoying air that has some moisture in it. Our house was very dry before and now we're at about 40% humidity with temps around 70-72.

Happy farming and Happy New Year !!

I am using wheat bran and rolled oats with potatoes for water and an occassional appple. I keep them in my room because that is where the heater is. I am guessing it is around 65 degrees? The rest of my house is at 55 degrees. They are really active and I am sure I am just eager to see some production! Thank you for all of the help!
