Mealworm farming

That's why I use rolled oats in the beetle drawer.

I barely put any wheat bran in for my beetles because of that. I do give them paper to crawl under though. This is new to me so I have no idea if this is working as well as the other way we did it or not. I hope so.

Did you notice on "Dirtiest Jobs" when they showed a little of the inside of the beetle bins they didn't have much to crawl through? That is why this is a new set up for me. I know they like to burrow into the wheat bran or oats.

I only use oats in my beetle drawers also. And lots of veges and I just put in my morning banana peel!

Well I just got to an exciting point in my mealworm adventure. I now feel that I have enough pupae and bettles and can start harvesting. I will still let some grow out but will now start feeding/freezing most of the full grown worms. I have so many pupae yet to morph and 3 bins of beetles that have been readily producing eggs. Hopefully I will be able to keep the bettle population were it is and still be able to harvest lots of betles. I really wish they grew faster!!

I think I've decided to try a drawer system. Does anyone have the how to's or info on them posted on a website or do I need to search through the 335 pages of this thread. :/

Look in my signature and you will see pictures. I have a 3 bin setup and I put about 3,000-4,000 in each drawer as worms and now mosh have pupated and I separated most of the beetles out in a 2nd colony. I use wheat bran as bedding but i think I am going to switch to Rolled Oats in my beetle drawers.
