So, I got my beetles today, and finally finished my setup. Ive found 8 Pupa today, which makes for a very happy day! All of the beetles made it in the shipping and none where dead. I took some pics of my setup :) Just thought I would share

This is my beetles on top and mealworms down below. I have a screen on the bottom of the beetle box. Im using chicken mash and wheat bran for my bedding, adding veggies (whatever I have left from dinner) to the box for humidity.

The Lid , I drilled holes and hot glued window screen to keep other bugs out

My new beetles :) I found a friend on FB that was willing to give me a bunch if I paid for shipping~!

My screen on the bottom of my beetle box! :) I had fun doing this!

So my farm is started! I have about 50 beetles, about 40 Pupa, and about 800 worms! Wish me luck! I had a local feed store ask me if they could buy some worms from me once I get it going! Im sooo excited! My girls are too! They had a little snack today and LOVED it! Sesame (my hen) tried to be a pig and eat all the worms I took out for everyone! She is hilarious!

Very nice set up and I love the mountain dew in the background!! My favorite drink!!! Do you have a smaller separate bin for the pupa??

My bin for the pupa is actually the same size as the beetle bin. I bought more bins than I needed, so the pupa rest in a bigger bin than what they need.

Mt Dew is my fave too~! I dont drink much else.

Still watching the mail and waiting for my worms... got a notice that they went into the mail yesterday so hopefully they will show up tomorrow...

Actually I just checked my tracking number and it says my box of worms was delivered today...but there is no box...just asked the spouse and no box...

Now I'm very worried...

Don't worry!! I may suggest checking with your PO. We have a PO Box, and even though we give Fedex, or UPS our home number, sometime it goes to the PO....

Well good news :)

There was a miscommunication between my spouse and I -- I'm not usually the one to empty the mailbox since my spouse has been doing it when pulling in the driveway from work...but works really funky hours so I guess technically picks up yesterday's mail early in the morning.

I had assumed the box would be delivered to the door as usual but apparently it was just small enough for USPS to squeeze into the mailbox...which meant they had spent about 8 hours in the box on a sunny 90 degree day. I was sure they'd all be baked to death.

Turns out I had one dead worm in the whole box of 1000...not too shabby! They all seem active and are eating away.

Ordered from GrubCo -- they only ship M/T/W so when I ordered late last week I knew it would be a bit. They shipped priority on Tuesday and they were in my mailbox (unbeknownst to me) Wednesday morning. As the tracking number I forgot I had would have told me. So they did very well, despite the best efforts of their customer... :) Worms were packed in a closed but breathable canvas bag kept open by two pieces of newspaper for structure, which was all in a sturdy cardboard box with a small amount of added ventilation.
