Mealworm farms

Well, since I live in Texas, it is 98-104, already HOT! We keep our house too cold for mealworms and its too hot outside, I guess I will be buying them. I am not liking the idea of worms in our house anyway and my husband said HECK NO!!!!!!! Lol

We keep our house at 73 and our farm is still doing great.

We started our farm with 1000 worms a couple months ago. It took a few weeks for them all to pupate and for the beetles to hatch. After 5 weeks, I can finally see the tiny worms growing. We are using the drawer method. I move the drawers one every 2 weeks and put new vegetables in every few days. It's so easy. (When the beetles were hatching, I checked them several times a day. I think next time, I'll just put the pupas in the top drawer and leave them alone.) We use chick feed.

I was a little unsure of having worms around but they really are not bad at all. It has been a great project to teach the kids about life cycles. The chickens love them and it saves us a ton of money. We watched a bunch of YouTube videos and then figured out what would work best for us.

I researched you tube also. I have seen it done so many different ways. I am a clean freak and just don't think I can do the drawer method. Lol The one tub method will work for me. I debated it though. I finally bought some live worms today and my son and I plan to put it all together in the morning. I can't wait, we picked potatoes from our garden this morning to feed them. Everyone says its super easy. Good luck:)
