Mealworm question

I am wondering if chickens can be fed just mealworms and whatever they eat outside. Has anyone had any experience with this? It's been awhile since I have had any chickens and I just bought some eggs. I am going to use chick food at first but wondered if I could go with just mealworms when they are adults. tia. Do they need grains?

Dried or live? Mealworms lack vitamins and minerals, have a bit or protein and a fair deal of fat. Dried are expensive and live would require a ton of work for the amount you would need. if by grains, you mean scratch, scratch is a minimal treat, not a feed.
They do need formulated feed, they can stay on the chick feed.
