mealworms ?????

I just started a few today. Got a 500 box from Petco, hope they grow. I think they are the "standard" size, there was mini, and superworms, this was just plain mealworms.

I finally got my least-friendly chicks to eat out of my hands with these worms!

you can get that info by going to
http://www.google.com
and putting in
raising mealworms
one note they are from darkling beetles which can be very ruinious to a chicken farm
as they will eat dead meat and carry diseases if allowed to get out of the worm box in the darkling beetle stage

I've seen several posts so far about people feeding mealworms to their chicks/chickens.... do you cut the heads off of the worms before you give them to your birds? It's just that I used to have a pet frog years ago, and I had to cut the heads off before I fed him to make sure they wouldn't chew their way out of his stomach and kill him. (Gross, I know

I'm guessing this is not the case with chickens- I think they probably peck/bite the heck out of the worm before they eat it.... but I just wanted to make sure.

So, cut the heads off or don't bother?

I have never had anyone say they needed their heads off......
My lizard lived for 5 years on live ones.
Are you sure you need to cut the heads off for the frog? It sounds like something mean someone would say and then get a big kick out of a youngster doing it.

I just bought a batch from the pet store and let them multiply. I put mine in a shoe box with bran and an apple and very quickly I had bettles running in the box and then they got lose and yeah. lol. Get a better container than a shoe box and it won't be a problem.
