Thanks for the link, I'm actually going to try this with my roo. He's only 6 week old, but it will come in handy as he gets older! I totally understand your thinking on this and it makes alot of sence to me:)

Good link, I can verify that works. Someone else had mentioned how you can be friends with the hens but never the rooster, how true that is. I admire my rooster from a distance, but up close it's nothing but business. I have always keep my rooster (Big Daddy) in line, however he started giving my wife trouble... she was researching chicken dumpling recipes when I told her to try some of these things. After two weeks, she was unafraid to into the chicken yard (as long as she had a rolled up newspaper). Any time he decides to get uppity, they got at it until he is running for his life. Roosters are impressive fighters, but their reach is rather lacking. Show them these are your hens and if he challenges you he'll end up on his back, it's all good.

thanks for all your good advice, may try to persever a while longer may try the rolled up magazine, also thought so hes no threat to my grand children i wont have him out where they are, keep him in the coop, he is only a bantam but has managed to draw blood when he pecks me, i'm glad hes not a really big rooster, some i've seen are nearly as big as dogs, they would really scare me,
