Our chicks are now 9 weeks old and the most beautiful one that I thought was a Pullet was trying to crow this morning. This chicken was also displaying some aggressive behavior, attacking other chickens, and biting them on the back of the neck inflicting pain. Is this normal behavior or should I get rid of him now? These are our first Chickens and we have a lot invested in their well being.

Hi there. It's always the most beautiful that turn out to be roosters!

You're seeing the cockerel taking control of the flock. He's in charge and letting the girls know it. Some of what you're seeing is also practice for when he'll mate with the girls once they start laying.

I would leave well enough alone provided he's not injuring anyone or making the girls lives miserable. If that happens then you can always separate him from the girls for a few days.

Thank you, I came to this conclusion after a bit more reading here this morning. We have 13 with 2 confirmed Cockerels so far.
