MEAN FOREVER? Why Are They Acting This Way?

I thank everyone for your info/advice/expertise.
I realize that chickens don't need "toys" - In the run while they were out for a couple hours, I have an old tree stump and some bricks etc that they enjoyed jumping on and running around.

We will build an addition on the coop. DH isn't fond of that BUT the coop somehow was built smaller than talked about. There is def. enough room for all of them at their current size. We've got a little time before we can build. It hasn't stopped raining long enough around here in the past almost 2 weeks.

We had a little better luck with them last night. I think maybe we should have waited to put them outside that first day. I think they're waiting to go back out. Only the weather hasn't been cooperative. Plus they don't yet have all their feathers.

Did you catch the bit about styrofoam? It is both their joy and their nemesis. They will shred it like fiends and happily scarf it down, so be very careful about getting it even close to them!
Luckily, as far as I know, it doesn't do them any lasting harm. Kinda like when you or I eat those funky, dry rice cake snacks....

i did catch that, i'd hate to have them eat something that would be harmful though......

People who have been around chickens for long have separate muck boots for going into the chicken yard.

Flip flops are bound to lead to trouble...

My Buff Orp. were acting the same then I held the feed in my hand and thats what they were running to
they knew when I came into the coop it was feeding time. and a little feed tossed on the side they soon stop their antics.
while I filled the feeder.
