So my buff orpington roo is growing into the meanest guy ever and I'm completely lost on what to do. He attacks my 7 yr old daughter anytime she's outside. He will run all the way across my yard at her every single time. He's gone after my 9 yr old son a few times more recently and today and yesterday tried at my 3 year old. He tries to get tough with me but as soon as I turn and walk toward him he takes off. He's getting mean with the hens and our ducks as well. They have plenty of coop space. 2.5 acres to free range 2 pools plus 3 water bowls and a waterer which all are refilled twice a day. I have 6 feeding stations for them. He doesn't bother my husband. Just myself and our kids. I've never had a mean roo before and I'm at a loss on what to do. He has 5 hens and also mounts the 2 Pekin ducks we have so I don't think it's bc of not having enough females.

Any tips or ideas would be really helpful and 100% appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Edit to add- he's going to be 8 months old the end of this month.

One more edit. It's hard to do certain things bc I'm 6.5 m pregnant and husband works most of the day. So catching or anything like that would have to be nighttime when they're roosting in the coop.

Weigh trying to fix him against the time it’ll expose the 3 year old to injury.

The 9 and 7 year old?? Give them a stick and swing for the fences.

In all honesty I’d put him in a bachelor pad for a few months minimum if you’re set on keeping him. If you’re not set on keeping him, I’d strongly suggest culling him.

I'll do that. What's the bachelor pad part tho? Like locking him by himself for a while? I've heard they get really hormonal. Is this part of that or should he be coming out of it by now?

I’ve always culled ornery cockerels no matter the age. But a single coop for him where he could be next to and see the ladies would be sufficient I think.

I’ve read that cockerels don’t mellow until we’ll over a year. More toward 1.5 years old. My 6 month cockerel is nice and polite. He’s a Rhode Island Red.

Oh okay. I've had a few different roos. My favorite were my barred rocks. Even having too many roosters (unknowingly at the time) they were all very calm and polite with us and their girls and never gave any issues at all with aggressiveness toward each other or anyone else. I've never had a buff roo so his behavior is appalling to me. As a youngster my uncle had well over 300 birds and tons of roos all different breeds but I was always out with them and never saw a mean one. He didn't have any buffs tho. This guy might have to go to a friend who culls. We try not to unless absolutely needed.
