Hi all, I would like to build a coop for my meat birds when I get them and I was wondering about the design. I know that roost are not pratical but I would think they still need to get up off the ground at night. I also need to keep predators in mind. If anyone could post a picture of their meet bird coop, it would be great. Thanks in advance.

I have heard they dont do well in a coop.. Mine will be going into tractors and I am gonna put a short roost for those who want it.. But the amount of poo and urine they produce I think would cause some major health issues in a coop.. Just my two cents but hopefully others will chime in..

Use a tractor you can move easily and forget the roosts.

I have a coop and they do not recommend roosts for meat birds as they can hurt themselves getting off. They may walk up a ramp but they may try to fly off the roost. Their legs just aren't meant to carry that amount of weight and adding the force of landing and it could mean disaster. I worry when they fluttter off the top step of my coop. We keep ours in the coop and when they are large enough encourage them to got outside. I keep the coop pretty clean by fluffing the bedding and adding new and cleaning it when it starts to get stinky. On nice days the feed is all outside unless it is pouring rain. When I am home the pen is open the feed moved into the yard. After a few weeks they don't even need the feed to coax them they head out into the yard as soon as the gate is open. They are messier than my standard hens but maybe that is just my imagination.
