meat bird feeding schedule

Does anybody has a feeding schedule for meat birds .Cornish X

For the first two weeks in the brooder I feed them 24 / 7. Then they go out to pasture and receive 12 hours with feed........ 12 hours off of feed. For me what works best is 7:00 in the morning till 7:00 p.m. If you continue a 24 / 7 feeding program they will grow too fast and "flip" aka heart attack.

In the summer some people feed only at night doing the opposite of what I do. They feed at 7:00 p.m. till 7:00 a.m. This is very popular among southern states as the feed creates heat in the birds bodies and with the temps getting in the 90's the main thing people want to do is keep the birds cool.... so they feed at night.

It's important to build them up so they are healthy for 1st two weeks, and then limit so they donlt get too big too fast. Plus, I heard from this site that ir prevents yellowing of the meat and skin as well.

Thanks for the invite.... I've been apart of Backyard Chickens for about 6 years now..... the funny thing is I had to register on again because for some reason a few years ago the site had changed owners or something??? Not sure but I'm still looking for some people that I use to know on here but havn't had much luck.....

People here feed 24/7 and 12/12. Both groups raise absolutely fine broilers. I have never found compelling evidence for either method. The more important things to consider are exposure to heat and cold fluctuations.

my method is totally odd....

they get fed in the morning....enough to finish in an hour.

then, i do it again in the afternoon. that's all they get. they forage all day and grow a little slower, but man, they are totally good!

Yeah that's probably the best way. But from a production stand point it's tough to do since it does take longer than 6-8 weeks. Much healthier for the birds though as it lets their bones and organs grow with they amount of meat they put on in such a short time.
