Meat bird gender !? Introduce a rooster ?!

Help please! Lol 1st time having chickens I was offered a 8 week old rooster. Would it be safe to put him in with my 8 week old chickens ? I have 5 unsexed meats and 5 layers.

Are the meat birds with the bigger and very red comb and wattle males? Can I add a rooster in with male meat birds?
I was given another meat bird a few weeks ago and he has a bad leg. I tried to introduce him to the others a week ago and they tried to kill him. So I have him separated in a little cage in the hen house now. But I don't have room for another cage in there ..

I don't know what to tell you about the new rooster. Meat birds generally do not live long enough to lay eggs or hatch chicks. They can be either sex- I've never heard of anyone having a problem with a meat bird cockerel. Your new meatie with the bad leg, is showing you what happens if they aren't processed (slaughtered) early enough.

Their explosive growth causes the legs to give out, and their organs begin to fail. You may want to check out the Meat Birds thread, for more information.
