I've been wanting to get some Red rangers to raise and put in my freezer. But I've learned that since they are a hybrid I can't breed them and get the same type of chicken. I'm wondering what other breed can I hatch out on my own and get the same quality bird? That way I don't have to spend my money at the hatchery and I can keep a few for hatching eggs. Ty
I have not heard that you cannot breed them because they are hybrids, I would try one of ranger varieties and see if that is true at least on 3-4 hens ans in 2-3 hatchings you would find out if it was true. If it is you might try a (brand x) ranger male over (brand y) and the reverse and see what happens you might find 2 different ranger varieties might work. if you do once you run into inbreeding problems or spent hens/roos you might get a few more ranger varieties from different feed stores and start over again
