Hi everyone, Ive been looking through info on the website but this is my first time posting.

We've had laying hens for over a year but this year we decided to raise 15 meat birds. I kind of wish we had chosen a different breed than cornish cross... I guess this is how we learn.

Onto the question...

I have 1 bird that can't walk anymore and they are about 50 days old (born june 1st or so) They all look healthy except a few were sneezing due to a beginner mistake of keeping them in cedar chips (we later learned its not good for them 2 weeks into it we changed the bedding) This 1 bird cant walk and we have to move it to eat or drink. We are only processing on july 30th. But I think we will have to cull this one tomorrow. My question is how do we know if its because of the breed that she can't hold her weight and walk or perhaps a disease? Is she safe to eat? Also, exposing them to cedar oil for 2 weeks I know wasn't good but all of them seem okay except a few sneezing still, should they still be okay to eat? It wouldn't have caused any diseases by any chance? We are really new at this, would appreciate any feedback... We really want to learn how to do things right and are learning a lot. We had no idea cornish cross would be so different then having laying hens.

I would cull her right away, For the disease part i am not sure, I'm no expert.. But i cant tell if shes sick or not just from hearing she cant walk, It could be a weight problem.. My father would always tell me how much he hated raising cornishes as a kid because they'd always break their toes and legs if the jump off from anything less then a foot tall... So it could be a weight problem.. If shes only fallen and nothing else seems to be wrong i'd say go ahead and eat her!
