Meat bird?!

View attachment 1387721 We bought a variety of breeds this year, and none of them were supposed to be meat birds. But we have two chicks that got big *fast*. They are just over 9 weeks old, and yet are as big as our 2 and 3 year old hens which leads us to suspect we somehow got a couple meat birds instead of layers. The black hen is 2 years old (who flew into the chick coop uninvited but was hardly noticed since some of the chicks are so big), and the mixed brown is our oversized chick. She seems to barely be able to manage her weight because she only walks when it’s completely necessary and then drops down without any grace like she can’t possibly stand any longer. What do y’all think?

From the description of the brown chick I’m thinking maybe a Freedom Ranger

I dug a little deeper myself, and I determined it was a Freedom Ranger. Seems we have two of them- both cockerels. Glad I figured that out now since they are right at their prime butchering age.
