Meat breeds

Some of my relaitives from Michigan said that when they grew up in the late 1920's and early 1030's, most meat chickens were Jersey Giant and RIR/NH Red roosters from the laying hen hatcheries.

Anyone here had experience with the Freedom Ranger breed?

Edited to add appreciation to TBeck3579 for posting the link to that article...extremely informative.

I am raising them right now. I am very please with them. They don't grow as fast as CornishX, but that is one thing i like about them. They have personalities and forage well. Mine will be ready in about 2 weeks(12 wks old) and are 2nd generation.

Thanks, I think I'm actually following your thread...by 2nd generation you mean you bred two Freedom Rangers and are now raising the offspring?

I raised the Freedom Rangers last summer from JM Hatchery//Freedom Ranger Hatchery Inc. out of PA. They were healthy, easy, put on weight well but not too fast. I got my chicks for this Spring on Friday. The weather was cold here, but they came through two days of shipping in perfect health and were active immediately into the brooder. I love the meat!
