My experience so far has been with extra roos. The best two so far for me have been Wyandotte and Dominique. I'm betting you will get similar results from most of the dual purpose breeds. Rocks and Delawares come to mind, but I have no experience with them.

Do you know how long it takes for them to be big or old enough for the butchering?

I did mine at 20-25 weeks.

There are also Freedom Rangers. Slower growing but still ready by 12 weeks. They have a black broiler available this year that is even a little slower growing.
