Hello! I have 2 week old meaties that were attacked by a critter last night. Out of 20 only 4 survived- 3 are missing toes and a few small lacerations- 1 has the skin at her crop torn open. All are eating and drinking good. Can anyone give me suggestions on caring for wounds or best advice possible.

Flush out wounds with vetericyn if you have it. Do not use peroxide. Coat wounds liberally with Neosporin (off brand is fine, do not use the kind with painkillers no matter which brand). Try to keep the wounds covered with bandages as best you can, and keep them clean. Definitely keep the one with the large injury separate from the others, and keep the others separated if they seem likely or prove to want to pick at each other's injuries. The foot injuries i would pay special attention to as they will be prone to infection. Definitely keep them bandaged. I have used masking tape or paper packing tape in the past because they shed all other bandage materials too easily. Is there any bone sticking out anywhere? Also, you might do well to give them gatorade or another electrolite suppliment if they seem to be out of it or in shock. Often shock alone will kill a bird, but it sounds like yours may be fine since they are active.
