Hi everyone! I've been in the chicken business for a little while now, but I've never eaten one of my own. What are some breeds that are good meat chickens, or even better, dual purpose? The only breeds I have at the moment are bantam & orpington. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thank you in advance!

In my opinion you've got the best dual purpose breed out there, orpingtons.

English are better than the American of you ask me.

If you want meat only, you can't beat Cornish rock crosses. 6 to 8weeks to table. Can't beat that.

the best pure meat bird out there would have to be the Cornish cross just being able to butcher in 6-8 weeks. though they are kinda messy and have to be cleaned up quite a bit, but i find them rather dumb and lazy, for dual purpose breeds am not sure never raised one. but there are other breeds out there like the freedom ranger for meat purposes as well if the lazy and dumb Cornish cross is not for you.
