I just have an inquiry for you guys. I'm wondering what the market is like for duck meat? I'm starting to plan my farm about 2 hrs. from Edmonton alberta. And is interested in raising ducks for meat. If there is a good market for duck meat is the a butcher plant that I'd could sell directly too. while I'm planning my farm I not new to this I was born on a mixed cattle farm. I would like to know how big I need to get to make a complete living off my farm mostly ducks. If any one has any advice or opinions please let me know.

thanks

Caroline

Not sure on the market, my guess is that would depend on your area. Pre- Orders might be the way to go to gauge interest. The other thing to consider is the regulations in your area. You'd need to consult your agriculture department to find that out time from hatch to butcher depends on the breed of duck. Also butchering technique. Carcasses that are plucked are normally timed to be right around a molt, to make the job easier. Other carcasses are skinned, so feather development stage really isn't such an issue in that case. There is a meat birds thread, you might like to check in there.

Thank you. Yea I straight everything to be clear and straight to make sure I have this as a success.
