Hi, I went to the feed store to get layer feed, they were out and the owner told me I could feed my laying hens...Meat Maker feed?

It has 21% protein and she said it is okay during the winter months for the girls. I didn't buy it because I was not sure.....SOOO what do you all think about it????? Thanks

I use 50/50 layer and meat maker year round because I have so many older hens and roosters. Works great, they grow feathers faster during molt and keep weight better in the winter.

Keep out a dish of oyster shell and they'll take what they need.

The protein is a little high for layers they really don't need it. There is very little or no calcium or other added to the ingredients for egg making with Broiler or Fryer feeds. Its fine for them before they start laying.
Just the way I care for my Hens. It's still your choice.

Do you notice any difference in egg production with the mix vs straight layer feed?
