I thought I was the only one with the canned mackerel secret, I use it also for my hunting dogs while they are under a heavy work load. I love to feed this stuff to my chickens I think I pay something like $ .25 for a big can of it, what a great protien treat for them.

Would the mackerel add in the omega 3 protein? We are starting a bucket in the kitchen that we are going to give to the chickens at the end of the day so I will make sure they don't get too much, I read about a lady on here that lost a hen because the hen was too fat..... sometimes we love our animals too much.

Most fish are naturaly high in omega 3, and Mackerel is no exception, it has alot of oil and minimal processing, so it is nice and oil and stinky, great for animals.

Chickens even love ribs!! We threw some out recently and one hen grabbed one and ran to the back of the yard with it. What really seems wrong is the pony even ate one!!!! Of course the dogs ate the rest.

Our girls are fiends for sushi leftovers. Serious battles happen over who gets the eel pieces. They are also fans of carnitas from the local burrito place. This morning they're turning up their beaks at pellets, thinking, apparently, in their little poultry noggins, that sushi happens every day around here! If we didn't have dogs, they'd get the beef and bacon scraps.

My girls are fiends for nearly anything. My RIR gets especially wound up when we take treats. She will close her eyes and grab fingers on the hand without treats. Greedy little bugger.

Note to self: check for canned mackerel on next grocery shopping trip
