Meat Turkeys (would help if I could spell meat right)

It's a "Y" shaped breast bone so it's just not as large in that area. That's why of all the heritage breeds the RP was never really used as a meat bird.

Steve is a wealth of information!

By the way, when do your turkeys start laying? I ask because I want to try to hatch turkeys again and soon. I can smell spring.

Our Beltsville's and White Hollands have been laying since Christmas. The Midgets are just starting to lay, the Palms and Bourbons are mating but no eggs yet. The Bronze are young I would guess a month or so for them. That's one of the best things about our climate here in Eastern NC is it warms up quick in the spring, some of the trees are starting to bud and leaf out. The spring bug has bitten us to- we planted some early stuff in the spring garden last weekend.

Well we've had a "bleeping" lousy winter this year so I am totally jealous. I cannot wait to see buddimg instead of 12 foot tall snow banks.

I would love some blue slates and bourbons when they start laying. Could you keep me posted whn they do? And maybe some of the small whites you said that tasted so good

Julie,
We don't have any blue slates. Can you send an email to [email protected] for the Bourbons and Midgets. The mail box is so small here on BYC we can't fit all the orders in without loosing orders. Just let us know how many you are looking for of each breed.
