meaties are **3 weeks** today!

Ours are on 20% feed free choice till 2 weeks (if we start from day olds). These TSC kids will get it till 21 days.

Then 5 days of 20% feed 12 hours, then no food.

Then 5 days of 3/4 20%, 1/4 18% for 12 hours

Then 5 days of 1/2 and 1/2

Then 5 days of 3/4 18%, 1/4 20%

Then on 18%

The 2 smaller ones are still in with the DP babies, bigger but not the monster size I expect from CX. Not sure what they are yet. May be CX pullets who are smaller, so may try to keep them for egg production/cross breeding for meaties.

Well my meaties just turned 3 weeks today and are doing great. I keep them outside in a temporary pen for some of the day and in the shed at night. I'm feeding them a 22% game bird breeder now. Here are some pics...

Mine are 1 and 2 weeks old and look nothing like that. They are still yellow fluff balls. I have lifted my Ohio style brooder up 8 inches and turned off one of the lamps to hopefully aid in feather growth. I have them on 23% protien while in the brooder. After 3 weeks they drop to 18% and get food on the 12 on 12 off cycle.

Is the soybean meal expensive? Because if it would just even out to the cost of the higher protein feed, then what's the point? Thanks for the suggestion, though.

My Cornish X's are two weeks old today. I am feeding them 19% organic starter from a local feed shop... I like the fact that I know what they are eating is certified organic. I would want to eat this if i were a chicken! And that's important to me and my wife.

The pics look great! As this is my first post, I'm not totally sure as to how or even IF I can post pics, but will read up on it. Once I can or figure it out, I will update with weekly pics and comparisons, too.

I have 7 Cornish x's and 2 RIR's all for meat. My wife has 3 partridge rocks and 6 aruacana's for eggs... New to meat chickens and love this site for info.

I fed them 27% game bird starter for the first two weeks. I mixed some 18% with it, decided not to use much. I have to limit the food earlier because of the protein, but that could be it and I took the heat lamp off at a fairly early age...

Dang, everyones meaties passed mine up! Mine aren't even 2 lbs and it seems like ya'll's are. Maybe since mine are outside they forage more...Ive been letting them our of the pen and they kinda of wander the yard durring the day. I don't know...I'm feeding 20% protein and I'm not going out and buying any different bags of food. If they want to grow slow then so be it! lol

personally, I rather mine grow slower and not "suffer" anymore than this breed is prone to do. I got these from TSC thinking they were Cornish hens... I never saw the little "x" at the end until I went back a couple of days later to get a spare heat lamp.

Oh well, live and learn. I'll see how these go and decide whether to keep raising crosses or go to a dual purpsoe breed. Maybe RIR or Rocks... Like I said I'm new to meat chickens. That's why this post jumped out at me.
